• Private Log Home Residence, San Juan Islands

The clients had always fantasized about living in a log home. Being natives of Southern California, however, their opportunities were limited. After several trips to the San Juan Islands they discovered a fabulous wooded waterfront site that offered the chance to fulfill their dreams. The site sits high on a rocky bluff surrounded by forests of madronna, fir and cedar trees.

The 8500 sq ft project took three years to complete. The logs are spruce, the floors reclaimed antique white oak plank and the stone is native to the region. While the log construction lends both a rustic and traditional ambiance to the home, the cabinetry, appliances and furnishings evoke a more transitional feeling. The result is a modern comfortable residence that recalls the construction style of the earliest settlers and still satisfies the modern convenience requirements of the clients.
